Prayers to Saint Joseph

To you, O blessed Joseph, we have recourse in our affliction. Defend, most watchful guardian of the Holy Family, the chosen offspring of Jesus Christ. Keep from us, most loving father, all blight of error and corruption. Aid us from on high, most valiant defender, in this conflict with the powers of darkness; and as you once rescued the Child Jesus from great peril to His life, so now defend God’s holy Church from the snares of the Enemy and all adversity. Shield every one of us with your patronage so that, imitating your example and strengthened by your help, we may live a holy life, die a happy death, and attain to everlasting happiness in heaven. Amen.

St. Joseph, assist me in my struggle against the Enemy of my salvation! Amen.

Prayers to Guardian Angel

Hail, holy angel, appointed by God to be my guardian!

Hail, holy angel, my protection in all dangers!

Hail, holy angel, my defense in all afflictions!

Hail, holy angel, my most faithful friend!

Hail, holy angel, my guide!

Hail, holy angel, my teacher!

Hail, holy angel, witness of all my actions!

Hail, holy angel, my helper in every difficulty!

Hail, holy angel, my counselor in doubt!

Hail, holy angel, my shield in the hour of death!

Prayer of Saint Gertrude the Great (1256-1302):

O most holy angel of God, appointed by Him to be my guardian, I give you thanks for all the benefits you have bestowed on me in body and in soul. I praise and honour you for condescending to assist me with such patient faithfulness and to defend me against all the assaults of my enemies.

Blessed be the hour in which you were assigned to me to be my guardian, my defender, and my patron. In acknowledgement of all your ministries to me from my youth until now, and in return for them, I offer you the infinitely precious and noble heart of Jesus, and I firmly intend to obey you from now on and to serve my God most faithfully. Amen.

Prayers to a Patron Saint

O heavenly patron, whose name I am privileged to bear, intercede for me always before the throne of God; confirm me in the Faith, strengthen me in virtue, defend me in the battle of life; so that, victorious over the wicked Enemy of my soul, I may attain to everlasting glory. Amen.

Patron, whose name I bear, be mindful of me before God. Pray for me that I may always live as I should, so that I may keep the faith and be victorious in the battle of life. Amen.

Prayer on a Saint’s Day

Look upon our weakness, almighty God, and since the burden of our own deeds weighs heavily upon us, may the glorious intercession of St. [insert name of Saint] protect us, through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Invocation to the Nine Choirs of Angels

O holy Angels, watch over us at all times during this perilous life.

O holy Archangels, be our guides on the way to heaven.

O heavenly choir of the Principalities, govern us in soul and body.

O mighty Powers, preserve us against the wiles of the demons.

O celestial Virtues, give us strength and courage in the battle of life.

O powerful Dominions, obtain for us dominion over the rebellion of our flesh.

O sacred Thrones, grant us peace with God and man.

O brilliant Cherubim, illuminate our minds with heavenly knowledge.

O burning Seraphim, enkindle in our hearts the fire of charity. Amen.

Friday

To the Blessed Trinity

O God of the heavens, God of Light, God of the angels and archangels obedient to Your authority and power; O God, glorified in Your saints; Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Only-begotten Son, who delivered the souls that were bound to death and enlightened those who dwelt in darkness; He who released us from all our misery and pain and has protected us from the assaults of the Enemy.

And You, O Son and Word of God, who have intended us for immortality by Your death and glorified us with Your glory; You who loosed us from the fetters of our sins through Your cross, rendering us pleasing to Yourself and uniting us with God; You who rescued us from destruction and cured all our diseases; You who set us on the path to heaven and changed our corruption to incorruption:

Hear me, who cry to You with longing and fear, You before whom the mountains and the firmament under the heavens shrink back; You who make the elements of nature to tremble, keeping them within  their own limits; and because of whom the fires of retribution dare not overstep the boundary set for them, but must await the decision of Your will; and for whom all creation sighs with great sighs awaiting deliverance; by whom all hostile natures have been put to flight, and the legion of the Enemy has been subdued, the Devil is frightened, the Serpent trampled under foot, and the Dragon slain; You who have enlightened the nations that confess and welcome Your rule, O Lord; You through whom life has appeared, hope has prevailed, through whom man on the earth was recreated by belief in You.

For who is like You, Almighty God? For this reason we beseech You, O Father, Lord of mercies, who existed before the ages and surpasses all good, calling upon Your holy name, through the love of Your Son, Jesus Christ, the Holy One, and Your all-powerful Spirit:

Cast away from my soul every malady, all disbelief. Spare me from the furious attacks of unclean, hellish, fiery, evil-serving, lustful spirits; the love of gold and silver; conceit; fornication; every shameless, unseemly, dark, and profane demon. Indeed, O God, expel from me every force of the Devil, every enchantment and delusion; all idolatry, lunacy, astrology, necromancy, fortunetelling; the love of luxury and the flesh; all greed, drunkenness, carnality, adultery, licentiousness, shamelessness, anger, contentiousness, confusion; and all evil suspicion.

Yes, O Lord our God, breathe upon me the Spirit of Your peace. Watch over me, and in this way produce the fruits of faith, virtue, wisdom, chastity, self-control, love, uprightness, hope, meekness, longsuffering, patience, prudence, and understanding in me, so that I may be welcomed by You in the name of Jesus Christ, believing in the consubstantial Trinity, giving witness to and glorifying Your dominion, along with the angels and archangels and all the heavenly host, guarding our hearts by them.

For all things are possible to You, O Lord. Therefore, we ascribe glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Sunday

Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.

Body of Christ, save me.

Blood of Christ, inebriate me.

Water from the side of Christ, wash me.

Passion of Christ, strengthen me.

O good Jesus, hear me.

Within Thy wounds, hide me.

Separated from Thee let me never be.

From the malignant enemy, defend me.

At the hour of death, call me.

To come to Thee, bid me,

That I may praise Thee in the company

Of Thy Saints, for all eternity.

Amen.

Anima Christi, sanctifica me.

Corpus Christi, salva me.

Sanguis Christi, inebria me.

Aqua lateris Christi, lava me.

Passio Christi, conforta me.

O bone Iesu, exaudi me.

Intra tua vulnera absconde me.

Ne permittas me separari a te.

Ab hoste maligno defende me.

In hora mortis meae voca me.

Et iube me venire ad te,

Ut cum Sanctis tuis laudem te

in saecula saeculorum.

Amen.
