The Immaculate Conception Chaplet consists of three groups of four beads each. A large bead separates each group, and a medal of the Immaculate Conception (also known as a Miraculous Medal) is attached to the end. It was composed by St. John Berchmans, SJ and recited by him daily to obtain, through the intercession of Mary, the grace never to commit any sin against the virtue of purity. St. John Berchmans called it the “Chaplet of the Twelve Stars” with which to crown our Lady. The chaplet can be prayed for other intentions.

How to Pray the Chaplet of the Immaculate Conception

1.

Holding the Miraculous Medal, make the Sign of the Cross: "In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen."

(It is customary to kiss the Medal after signing oneself.)

On the Miraculous Medal:  "Blessed be the pure, most Holy and Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary."

2.

On the first single bead, the Our Father prayer: "Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen."

3.

On each of the first group of four beads, the Hail Mary prayer: 4 x "Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen."

After the fourth Hail Mary, the Glory Be prayer: "Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen."

4.

On the second single bead: "Blessed be the pure, most Holy and Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary."

Then the Our Father prayer: "Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen."

5.

After the fourth Hail Mary, the Glory Be prayer: "Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen."

6.

Amen."

At the end, some add: "Oh Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee." (which are the words on the front of the Miraculous Medal)
